Chapter One :Chapter 1

Abby Wells died on her 28th birthday.

Right before she slipped away, her entire life flashed before her eyes—short, messy, and full of drama.

She used to be everyone’s sweetheart, practically raised under the spotlight. All of China watched her grow up. She was spoiled beyond belief.

People adored her—like, really adored her. Even when she messed up, fans just brushed it off like, “Ah, that’s our Abby!” Spoiled drama queen and proud of it.

Top fashion brands? They treated her like royalty. Limited editions, custom pieces—they shipped her stuff for free just to see her wear it. She was the ultimate trendsetter. If she touched it, it sold out overnight.

And she wasn’t just a fashion icon—she was a freakin’ powerhouse in the acting world. Youngest actress ever to win both the Hundred Flowers and Golden Rooster awards at just eighteen. Not to mention, she bagged a Best Actress nom at Berlinale.

The next year? Bam—she took home Best Actress at the Golden Horse Awards and even got a Venice Best Actress nom. And guess what? She only acted in two films. Two. That’s it.

Reality shows basically lined up for her, and A-list directors were tripping over themselves to cast her. Fans? Obsessed. People smashing into walls just ’cause they saw her. Girls would literally take her photo to plastic surgeons and say, “Make me look like her.”She had shot over a hundred commercials and acted in more than fifty TV series. At her peak, she held endorsements for over thirty brands at once, including all five top-tier luxury lines.

When it came to national popularity, nobody in showbiz could top her. Even elderly folks in remote mountain villages would call her by name.

She started off as the adored national girl at age seven with her first commercial, and by twenty-three, she was blacklisted, banned from the entire entertainment industry. She’d been accused of acting like a diva, humiliating staff, using stand-ins, stealing the spotlight, cursing out fans, fistfights on set, heavy drinking, drunk driving, spending like crazy, gambling, owing loan sharks, wild parties, sleeping her way up, tax evasion...

Oh, right—almost forgot. She also did drugs, got sentenced to six months in prison, and was forced into rehab.

Sixteen years. She really managed to wreck her life in full force.

Looking back now, Abby Wells couldn’t help admiring herself a little.

Wasting a winning hand that thoroughly? That took talent.

She slowly lifted her head, a faint smile on her face as she gazed at the office building across the street.

A massive LED screen on the building flashed through photo after photo of someone’s face. From a dashing young guy to a calm, classy middle-aged man, time didn’t leave many marks on Nathaniel Thomason’s face. If anything, it just gave him an even stronger air of elegance and grace. He'd turned into one of those good-looking uncles with that mature charm that hits harder the older he got.

Sure, he aged, but his deadly handsome face? Still unfairly good-looking. In fact, that older, deeper vibe only made him more irresistible than he ever was in his youth.

Then the LED screen dimmed, and bold white letters popped up against the black: Nathaniel Thomason, rest in peace.

Abby Wells broke into a smile, but tears slipped down silently from her eyes. Her tone was dripping with exasperation. “Seriously, Dad, we really are cut from the same cloth—got played by the same person and everything. I trusted Amelia Brooks and ended up losing everything, including you, thanks to her setup. She took everything from me, including you as my father. And you, you were even worse. Not only did you take the fall for her like some noble idiot, you couldn’t handle it and ended up killing yourself?”

Like, come on. She tanked a ruined reputation and loads of debt, and still chose to fake crazy and hide out in a psych ward—how hard was that? Why go and off yourself?

This overly soft and hopeless dad... she honestly had a hard time acknowledging him."But—" Abby quickly wiped her tears, her voice firm and sharp: "You didn’t know Amelia wasn’t your real daughter. So in the end, you still died trying to protect your kid… trying to protect me. No matter what, I’ll make sure you get justice. Dad, hold on a bit longer. I’m sending Amelia down to hell to keep you company."

She spun around, yanked open the car door, and slid into the driver’s seat.

The black Maybach shot forward like a bullet, quickly pulling away from the remote psychiatric hospital and speeding onto the highway toward the city.

Abby gripped the steering wheel tight, face calm, but inside, she was burning with rage.

Suddenly—

Blinding high beams flared from the corner up ahead, forcing Abby to shut her eyes instinctively.

Right after, screeching brakes and a deafening honk crashed into her ears as the Maybach got slammed into the guardrail. The car flew into the air, flipping over and over before crashing hard onto the asphalt.

That dizzying, weightless feeling lasted just a few seconds. Then a wave of crushing pain tore through her body, like every bone had shattered.

She could feel the blood pouring out—nose, ears, eyes, and mouth. Her body jerked a few times without her even trying.

Abby knew then—this was it. She was dying. But she just couldn’t let it go. Everything that had happened—she wasn’t ready to accept any of it.

If life could hit the reset button…

When Abby opened her eyes again, she realized she was in a hospital room, the sharp smell of disinfectant stinging her nose.

Did they actually bring her back?

As she hurriedly checked herself for missing limbs, the door creaked open.

"Abby?! You're awake?!" A girl's surprised voice rang out—she was so shocked that the designer purse in her hand slipped and hit the floor with a thud.

Abby turned her head at the sound, muscles twitching uncontrollably at the corners of her eyes.

Amelia Brooks.

"Thank goodness! Abby, you finally woke up! You’ve been out for over two weeks!"

Amelia rushed over, throwing herself onto Abby, tears streaming down her face. She sobbed as she clung to her like she was about to vanish again. "Abby, it's all my fault—you ended up falling off that ski slope because of me. But I swear, I didn’t mean to. You know I only picked up skiing for that role. I just lost my balance on set and accidentally knocked into you. Please, Abby, don’t hate me for it, okay?"Abby froze.

What?

Filming?

Ski slope?

She was accidentally pushed?

Wait a sec... yeah, that did happen.

She was eighteen back then, shooting her first drama as the female lead. Amelia Brooks played her character’s friend — technically the fifth lead, but let’s be real, it was just a minor role.

Because she was jealous, Amelia pretended to lose her balance during a scene and shoved her off a ski slope over seven meters high. That fall landed Abby in a coma for more than a month.

Wait, hold up!!!

Abby’s eyes widened in shock.

A thought popped into her head that sounded completely insane—

Rebirth?
